London Toymaker In Crowd Funding Bid To Sponsor Boris Bikes
Cult toymakers attempt to raise record breaking sum to turn Boris bikes into Boris beasts
East London Toymakers TellTails are attempting to raise enough money from an Indigogo campaign to become the next sponsors of London’s ‘Boris Bikes’.
If they raise the record breaking amount of £37,500,000, they have pledged to turn London Boris Bikes into ‘Boris Beasts’ – by giving the bikes an animal print paint job and adding a tail to each one.
The campaign is already gaining momentum with over 80 backers in the first few days and 6 music Radio DJ Cerys Matthews tweeting about it.
TellTails, who make wearable animal tails for adults and children and count Kate Winslet, Prince Harry, Simon Pegg, Adam Curtis and Scroobius Pip amongst its fans, have launched the campaign to “rid London’s bikes of the moniker of avaricious squander monkeys”.
If the campaign is successful, not only will TFL be obliged to deliver the newly styled ‘Boris Beasts’, but the new ‘Beastly treatment’ will also be added to all Boris Bikes paraphernalia – including vehicles, docking points, pay terminals, staff uniforms, membership keys and public facing communications material.
Michael O’ Shea, director of TellTails comments: “We know it’s a lot of money to try and crowd fund but stranger things have happened, if people get behind it we might be in with a chance.
“If we don’t manage it, but the campaign does well, at least we’ll send a message to TFL and the Mayor of London showing that people don’t want the names of large banking corporations splashed all over London. Who knows, maybe we’ll inspire the next sponsor to get creative with the bikes?”
